Enjoy some Winter Warmth with an Updated Fire Insert

Sitting in front of a fire is a favorite thing to do – so hygge. Whether a summer firepit on the patio or a winter evening by the woodstove sitting and watching the flames while visiting with family and friends or reading a book (or maybe catching up on social media) is extremely relaxing. The flickering light, cozy warmth, and even the woodsy smell is such a treat and a good reminder to slow down and enjoy…

T-I-M-E

With this in mind, it is common, from late October through March, for our clients to have a fire crackling in their woodstove. However, last winter they found that their woodstove was increasingly temperamental due to age and it was becoming apparent that it was time to replace the existing woodstove. So, they set out to find the perfect woodstove for their home and along the way inspiration struck. They decided to give the seldomly used front room a complete makeover and reinvented the drab space to a beautifully appointed, relaxing (and technology free) get-away room.  Click here to see the before/after photos.

Their checklist for a new wood burning stove included the following:

  • Clean line, modern look with a glass door
  • Flush
  • Efficient and clean burning
  • Blower to distribute warm air (note: a quiet blower that didn’t rattle)

The model that fit their wish list while keeping the budget in mind was the Large Flush Wood Hybrid-Frye Insert by Fireplace Xtrordinair with a rectangular door face.

Fireplace Xtrordinair is a part of Travis Industries, Inc., the largest privately-owned wood, pellet, and gas stove, insert and fireplace company in America (located in Mukilteo, WA--right here in Snohomish County!).  See video below for a factory tour.

The features of the new woodstove is a hefty list with a few highlights being it accommodates 24′ logs, has a large glass (high temperature Neoceram safety glass) viewing dimensions of 24 ½’ x 13′, and heavy gauge steel plate construction. Our clients also opted for the wiring kit for a hard-wire connection within the firebox for the convection fan power to eliminate a cord running across the hearth.

Not only did this remodel transform the living space in this home, but VanderBeken Remodel received the 2020 REX/T-REX Award for the category: Get Away Room & Specialty Space Excellence for less than $50,000. Curious what the REX/T-REX Awards are?  They are awards presented annually by the Remodelers Council of The Master Builders Association of King & Snohomish County, the oldest Remodelers Council in the nation.  Entries were judged on aspects like (but not limited to) aesthetics, workmanship, and budget considerations.
