It started as many bathroom remodel projects do: perfectly functional, essentially dated, and entirely bland. We started by ripping out the old fiberglass shower and tub, replacing them with floor-to-ceiling tile shower in a sandstone color, with an accent border of horizontal glass tile to match the sink backsplash. The awkward old showerhead also got an upgrade to a large square Möen showerhead positioned high on the wall to create an overhead effect. The piéce de resistance in this shower is the stunning yet sturdy frameless barn-style glass door
One of our current favorite updates for bathrooms and kitchens alike here in the Pacific Northwest is heated flooring. We used the same oversized sandstone tile of the shower on the bathroom floor, but with the added bonus of toasty toes on colder days. We tore out the old cabinetry and installed a new vanity featuring flat-faced with overlay cabinet doors in a dark grey stain. We said farewell to the old round sink in favor of a deeper, wider undermount sink with a single-handle Möen faucet. The lightly speckled sand-colored Pental quartz countertop mirrors the tile without creating an overwhelming matching effect. Meanwhile, angled and squared brushed nickel cabinet hardware, dual towel bar, faucet, showerhead, and door handle tie the room together for a modern update.
The sandstone tile, brushed nickel hardware, and brightening of this bathroom create a calming spa-like atmosphere without leaving home.
The shower valve is across the shower from the showerhead—no more ducking out of the way of the shower spray!
